The 2,080-hour assumption
The common full-time estimate uses 40 hours per week across 52 weeks, or 2,080 hours per year. Change the assumptions when unpaid time off, part-time schedules or overtime make that comparison less accurate.
What is the difference between gross and net pay?
Gross pay is the amount before deductions. Net pay, take-home pay and net earnings refer to what remains after taxes, FICA and deductions are removed. Two people with the same salary can receive different checks when their filing status, state or benefits differ.
Is this an official tax calculation?
No. It is a transparent planning estimate. The federal model is based on 2026 IRS schedules; the state rate remains editable because local rules vary. Confirm final payroll amounts with your employer or a qualified tax professional.
